A lot of folklore, a lot of tradition and customs. The Merano Grape Festival with its splendid parade on Sunday morning attracts whole armies of spectators.
If you manage to get a good place along the route of the procession, you can expect a joyful, colorful and very traditional experience. The farmers, who give thanks for the successful harvest on this occasion, have always been joined by the tourists, as the said Grape Festival Merano promises full beds for the whole weekend in the middle of the golden Merano autumn.
At first, you might shake your head at the 20,000 or so visitors lining the streets along the procession, but you'll soon learn better: the procession lasts over an hour, with 43 different bands, floats, rifle and traditional costume associations forming a great mix of music and folklore while the enthusiastic crowd claps, waves and pulls out their camera phones.
If you want to have a clear view of the parade, you should arrive in time at Rennweg or Freiheitsstrasse. The front row is very much in demand!
